Hello! My name is Monica Zuniga and I absolutely LOVE teaching 2nd grade! I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Colorado and obtained my Master's degree in Education, Equity, and Cultural Diversity with a CLD endorsement from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I've been in education for 20 years, and my experience as a teacher includes teaching in the general education setting, bilingual classrooms, the IB Primary Years Programme, and middle school ESL; the majority of my teaching experience has been in second grade.
I'm a proud Colorado native and truly enjoy all of the crazy weather that this state has to offer year-round, but I especially love fall in Colorado. My husband and I stay busy with our fourth-grader Javian, our kindergartener Amoraya, and our two dogs, Zuni and Matt. We love to spend time outdoors, walking our dogs, playing at the park, riding our bikes, and visiting the beautiful Rocky Mountains. As a family, we enjoy going to sporting events and cheering on our Colorado teams, especially the UNC Bears, CU Buffs, Colorado Rockies, Denver Nuggets, and the Denver Broncos. GO BRONCOS!!
This is my 7th year here at McElwain Elementary, and I feel extremely fortunate to work with such an amazing staff and school community. I am passionate about teaching my students and work hard to provide them with rigorous and engaging learning opportunities. I strive to support them academically, socially, and emotionally to help them become the best version of themselves! Thank you for sharing your children with me, I'm looking forward to another amazing school year!
